From its roots established in 1956, Microform Academic Publishers' experience in preserving Britain's archival heritage continues to grow. The latest expression of this enduring tradition has been the launch of British Online Archives, their online gateway to providing scholars of general, colonial, economic, political or social history worldwide with remote access to core primary source materials, selected examples of which are freely accessible. However, our commitment to preservation microfilm as a publishing medium has not waned, as the recent appearance of the major new microfilm series entitled Records of the Raj shows.

Trading initially under the name of Micro Methods, and later E.P. Microform then Microform Limited, the company was set up as a publishing venture to serve the needs of academic institutions in the microfilming of research materials and theses. Over the next thirty years, it gradually took on more and more work from forward-thinking commercial and public-sector organisations which appreciated the benefits of image capture services in meeting their legal requirements to retain and manage key documentation.
